TCTA and others tout need for increased school funding, higher salaries

TCTA's Lonnie Hollingsworth took part in a press conference Tuesday morning with representatives of the other three statewide teacher organizations, PTA, school administrators, and more to draw attention to the need for more state funding. The increases currently proposed in the budget are not adequate to keep up with inflationary costs or to provide the significant salary increases needed for instructional and support personnel.

With the state budget due for House floor consideration Thursday, and with more — but not enough — additional funding being proposed for public schools, the groups united to present a coordinated front on the need to increase the basic allotment (the fundamental per-student amount sent to school districts).
