The Texas Senate met Thursday night to forward its two education bills, SB 1, a voucher bill, and SB 2, an education funding and teacher salary bill, to the House. Both bills, as filed, were unchanged from their last iterations, which easily passed the Senate in the previous special session. Their approval Thursday was considered to be essentially a rubber stamp. Committee hearings were announced with virtually no notice before the bills were quickly approved and scheduled for near-immediate consideration on the Senate floor.
SB 1 passed on a vote of 18-10, and SB 2 passed 27-1.
