Third special session begins

The third special session of the 87th Legislature began Monday, Sept. 20. As has been its custom, the Senate took quick action, holding hearings Tuesday on bills including SB 3, the bill addressing transgender students participating in UIL athletic competitions, and SB 1, which proposes to use surplus state funds to lower property taxes. Both bills passed the full Senate on Wednesday.

The Senate Special Committee on Redistricting will hear redistricting bills for the Senate and the State Board of Education on Friday and Saturday; bills proposing new boundaries for the House and for Texas congressional districts have not yet been filed.

After meeting briefly Monday, the House adjourned until Thursday, and is expected to break again until next Monday. No House committee hearings have been scheduled on bills related to items in the governor's call for the special session.
