TCTA staff and members to speak to new committee

The House Select Committee on Educational Opportunity and Enrichment begins its public hearings this Tuesday to hear invited testimony regarding specific topics in education, likely in anticipation of a special session later in the summer.

Among those invited to testify is TCTA, the only statewide teacher group invited to speak. Lonnie Hollingsworth, TCTA general counsel and a member of our lobby team, will appear along with two TCTA members, Tommy Evans of Abilene ISD and Vivian Burleson of Northside ISD, who will share their perspectives on the challenges teachers face in the profession today. While testimony from policy and legal experts is critical to the process, no testimony is more important than that of teachers who experience those policies and laws firsthand. We appreciate our members for their willingness to travel to Austin to make their voices heard.

The meeting begins Tuesday at 10 AM, but TCTA staff and our members will testify at Wednesday’s hearing, which begins at 9 AM. You can find links to watch the meetings here.
