House committees named

House Speaker Dade Phelan released the committee appointments for the Texas House this week. There had been rumors that last session's House Public Education Committee Chair might not return to that position, and speculation about who might be appointed was rampant. Many were surprised, though, when the committee lists were released Wednesday, and Rep. Brad Buckley (R-Salado) was named the Chair. Buckley is not new to the committee, having served on it during the 2021 session. He has also served on the Killeen ISD board of trustees.

Below are the assignments for the three primary committees affecting teachers and schools. The Pensions, Investments and Financial Services Committee addresses TRS issues, and Appropriations develops the state budget.
