TCTA's Friend of Education Award honors public officials and private citizens for their support of and contributions to public education.
The 2021-22 award will honor a public official. The 2022-23 award will honor a private citizen.
To honor a state official or legislator who has made a significant contribution to public education in Texas.
Must be an elected or appointed official at the state level in Texas; this includes state legislators and other statewide officials. (Locally elected officials such as judges, county commissioners, etc. may be eligible for the private citizen category.)
This award may be bestowed upon an elected or appointed official who, through leadership, actions and support at the state level, has proven to be a true friend of education, educators and students. The Legislation Committee will consider the following in selecting the award winner: length of time in appointed or elected office; history of specific accomplishments benefiting public education; position of leadership in state government; interaction with TCTA members and staff; and other criteria as appropriate.
Nominations are evaluated and the winner selected by members of the TCTA Executive Board.
Friend of Education winners receive an engraved award and will be recognized in TCTA statewide publications and on the TCTA website. Awards will be presented in a local ceremony.
