TCTA's Pamela McPeters testified before the House Appropriations Committee's subcommittee on Article III. This subcommittee serves as a working group for the portions of the budget regarding school funding and education-related agencies such as TEA and TRS.
TCTA advocated for a significant across-the-board pay raise for teachers and other personnel, including paraprofessionals, and warned that lawmakers should not rely on the Teacher Incentive Allotment program as a substitute for an overall pay raise.
The House's proposed budget includes a small increase in the basic allotment, which would lead to a small increase in compensation under current law that ties increases in funding to raises for non-administrative employees.
TCTA also advocated for enhanced funding for health insurance, and funding for the school climate survey that is currently authorized in statute but has only been administered once (in 2014 - the "TELL" survey).
