Saturday legislative days expected soon

The Texas Legislature will likely soon hold Saturday meetings to work on legislation as the end of the session approaches on June 2. 

With some bills just now being scheduled for their initial committee hearings, both chambers have their work cut out for them to push bills through the lengthy legislative process before sine die (the last day of the session). 

For most of the session, committee hearings are held between Monday and Thursday, with Friday reserved for office time and travel back to the district. This schedule slows the legislative process down in most cases, but it does not preclude legislative leaders from calling members in outside of those days for committee and floor business.

Hundreds of bills await the next steps in the process, and Saturday legislative days help them move along more smoothly and prevent logjams that could derail those bills entirely.
