Other House Public Education filings for next week

The House Public Education hearing on March 18 will include two other bills of interest to TCTA:

• HB 123 by Rep. Harold Dutton (D-Houston): similar to HB 11 from last session, the bill would revamp early childhood literacy and numeracy initiatives. One part of the bill would require K-8 teachers who provide instruction in math to attend math academies.
• HB 222 by Rep. James Talarico (D-Round Rock): the bill would expand the permissible uses of the School Safety Allotment to include training for teachers in classroom behavioral management.

TCTA is working with both offices to improve the bills for teachers and address any unintended consequences they may create.
