Legislature canvasses governor/lt. governor votes; base budgets could be released soon

The House and Senate met in a joint session Thursday for more procedural actions, including the statewide canvassing of votes for governor and lieutenant governor, and then adjourned until next week. We may see the first versions of the state budget when lawmakers return, and TCTA will be examining the bills to determine how these initial drafts address such issues as teacher salaries, health insurance, and a retiree cost-of-living adjustment.

TCTA is working closely with legislative leaders on these issues, as well as other proposals to improve working/instructional conditions in public schools and to encourage teachers to remain in the classroom.

In the coming days, before the House and Senate fully gear up, we will begin highlighting in this space some of the bills of interest that have been filed to date.
