House activity grinds to a halt as Democrats break quorum

On Monday, July 13, after the House recessed for the day, more than 50 House Democrats left the state for the purpose of shutting down the House's ability to take action on legislation. Democrats are using this parliamentary maneuver in an attempt to kill (or force modification of) election bills, described as "election integrity" or "voter suppression" legislation depending on the speaker's point of view.

The lack of a quorum in the House prohibits not only floor activity, but committee hearings. Meanwhile, the Senate continues holding hearings on bills relating to the governor's list of special session topics.
