President-Elect (Serves a one-year term, and then assumes the presidency for a one-year term)
Budget Committee Chair (two-year term)
Curriculum & Instruction Committee Chair (two-year term)
Teacher Personal Services Committee Chair (two-year term)
District Director (one- or two-year term)
At least one director position is open in each district since all districts have staggered terms. TCTA districts correspond to TEA’s Regional Education Service Center areas and have the same numbers.
Director(s)-at-Large (one-year term)
Director(s)-at-Large are elected as needed to ensure ethnic-minority representation on the TCTA Board of Directors. The definition of ethnic minority is the same definition as the Federal Census Bureau’s definition. The number of Director(s)-at-Large required to serve on the TCTA Board of Directors, determined by the proportion of ethnic minorities elected to serve on the board versus the ethnic-minority composition of the TCTA membership, cannot be determined until board elections are completed at the annual meeting February 29-March 1.
If you want to see who currently represents your area, take a look at the 2007-08 TCTA Executive Committee/Board of Directors. While many of these officers/directors will remain on the board to complete their terms, several positions are open for election/re-election, with new terms beginning June 1, 2008.
Who is eligible to run?
To be eligible to run for an office, an individual must:
* Have been an “Active” member of TCTA for at least four consecutive years immediately preceding election;
* Be a current TCTA member; and
* Hold membership in his/her local association (where applicable).
Additionally, a candidate for District Director or Director-at-Large is eligible for election in the TCTA district corresponding to the public school district in which he/she is employed. No two District Directors may serve from the same local CTA concurrently as long as there is more than one local association in a TCTA district. A person shall not be allowed to run for District Director or Director-at-Large if election would extend tenure in office beyond five consecutive years as a member of the TCTA Board of Directors.
What are the duties/responsibilities of a director?
As a member of the TCTA Board of Directors, a Director/Director-at-Large will represent his/her district and conduct necessary business of the association at annual meetings and between annual meetings, subject to the mandates of the annual Representative Assembly and the membership. Duties include approval of the legislative program and budget, determination of TCTA’s position on key education policy issues, etc.
