The Center for Student Credit Card Education, Inc. (CSCCE) is offering its free credit card literacy program to TCTA members. “The ABCs of Credit Card Finance–Essential Facts for Students” program provides information on choosing and responsibly using a credit card. The booklet covers material such as planning a budget; credit card costs, including annual fees, interest and late fees; choosing the best card for particular needs; credit reports and credit scores; and identity theft. The Texas Education Agency includes this curriculum in its list of approved financial literacy materials for use by schools.

TCTA members have until Oct. 31 to order free copies of the booklet (one per student) to help teach secondary students about the appropriate use of credit cards. While intended especially for high school juniors and seniors, the booklets will be made available to other secondary students as quantities allow. Each teacher will receive a trainer's guide, and a PowerPoint presentation may be downloaded from their website.

Simply send your name, school, address, phone number and the quantity of booklets needed to TCTA on or before Oct. 31 by one of the following:

* E-mail TCTA member services

* Contact TCTA Services toll-free at (888) 879-8282

Requested materials will be distributed in January 2008.
