Nov. 1 is the deadline

Nominations for the TCTA 2006-07 Awards Program are now being accepted. Official rules and nomination forms are available online (see below).

TCTA presents 11 statewide awards annually to honor those who have made outstanding contributions during the past year to public education, the teaching profession or to TCTA. Nine awards are presented to those outside the teaching profession, and two are given to TCTA members. External awards include: Friend of Education, Administrator of the Year, School Board Trustee of the Year, and Silver Apple media awards. Internal awards are given for Retiree of the Year and Faculty Representative of the Year.

For more information, read the official nomination rules that accompany each nomination form, or contact the TCTA Communications Department toll-free at (888) 879-8282.

Rules & Regulations

Nominations for 2006-07 awards may be submitted to TCTA headquarters via mail, FAX, or hand delivery. Nominations must be electronically stamped or postmarked on or before Nov. 1, 2006. Each award has an official nomination form that outlines specific submission requirements, and each entry will be screened for adherence to these regulations before being submitted to the judges. A nomination could be moved to a different category if it meets eligibility requirements.

Selection process

TCTA Awards Program judges will know the names of Friend of Education and Silver Apple nominees. In all other categories, nominee names, school districts and CTA affiliations (if any) will be eliminated to ensure a fair and impartial judging process. Friend of Education award recipients are selected by TCTA’s Legislation Committee; all other award winners are selected by the Communications/Public Relations Committee. Award winners and those who nominated winners will receive official notification in January 2007. TCTA 2006-07 award winners will be honored in March 2007 at TCTA’s Annual Convention in Austin.
