TEA identifies partners in Texas Virtual School Network |

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has announced key partnerships with local education service centers and a number of other entities in the launching of the Texas Virtual School Network (TxVSN). Summer fingerprinting schedule released for educators, substitutes and aides |

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released a summer schedule for fingerprinting and conducting a criminal history review of certified personnel, substitute teachers and aides. Educators in the affected districts must provide contact information to their school districts within 15 days after the notification date listed on the schedule, and must submit fingerprints to the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) in accordance with the schedule established for the individual district. The schedule requires some educators to communicate with the school district and SBEC via email during the summer, so you should find out now if your district will be affected, in order to minimize confusion caused by vacation plans or summer commitments. |

| Accountability and transparency major factors in new NCLB rules | ||
New regulations focusing on accountability and more transparency in regard to the No Child Left Behind Act were announced last week. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings looks for the new regulations to help parents and the public better understand reporting measures of student data, at the national and state levels. | Early math TAKS results released | ||
The Texas Education Agency has released early results of the TAKS math scores for grades 5 and 8. This year marks the first time the TAKS math scores will include results from students taking the TAKS (Accommodated) portion of the exam, which provides certain accommodations for students in special education. This year also marks the first that students in grade 8 must pass the math and reading portions of TAKS in order to advance to the next grade level. Read more…

New TEA website more user-friendly |

The Texas Education Agency recently launched several new web portals geared toward specific audiences, such as educators, superintendents, parents, students and the news media. In developing the web portals, TEA invited TCTA to participate in an advisory committee to give the agency input on the design of and information to be included in the web portals. TCTA identified categories of information that would be useful to the various audiences, and in particular, educators, such as certification, NCLB “highly qualified” requirements, job opportunities, student discipline and student testing information, all of which were incorporated into the new web portals. |
