TCTA Awards and Nominations Deadline Thursday!

 
 

Make this the year you nominate a TCTA award winner:

November 1 postmark deadline is Thursday

Want to garner some “good press” for your CTA? Here’s your chance. Initiated more than 30 years ago, the prestigious TCTA Annual Awards Program honors those who have made outstanding contributions during the past year to public education, the teaching profession or to TCTA. Categories include Friend of Education (Public Official and Private Citizen); Administrator of the Year (Elementary, Middle/Secondary, Central Office); School Board Trustee of the Year; Silver Apple (broadcast and print media); Retiree of the Year; and Faculty Representative of the Year. Nominations must be electronically dated or postmarked on or before November 1, 2007. See the award forms and rules online for more information.

November 1 deadline right around the corner for TCTA officer/director nominations

If you’ve always wondered how officers and directors for TCTA are chosen and perhaps considered becoming more involved, here is your chance. But you need to move quickly: All nominations must be received at TCTA headquarters by November 1 in order to be printed on the ballot. (Candidates can be nominated from the floor of the Representative Assembly, but their names do not appear on the printed ballot.) Districts to select a representative for implementation of FITNESSGRAM assessment

 
 

The Texas Education Agency has identified FITNESSGRAM as the fitness assessment tool to be used by all districts throughout the state in meeting the newly legislated fitness assessment required for all students in grades 3-12 beginning this school year. Lamar CTA member named Wal-Mart Texas Teacher of the Year

Pamela Brown, a fifth grade teacher at Campbell Elementary School in the Lamar CISD, has been named Wal-Mart’s Texas Teacher of the Year. Brown is now up for the national distinction to be announced in November. Congratulations, Pamela! Read more…

C-SPAN announces StudentCam 2008

C-SPAN wants to know what political topics are on the minds of today’s young people, and announced its call for entries for the 2008 StudentCam video documentary competition. A total of $50,000 will be awarded in prizes, which will include 92 student awards and 11 teacher awards.

Ever wondered about the origin of a certain word? This week’s extra credit features a short quiz of 10 questions focusing on the art of language! Think carefully, this site boasts it’s “the toughest word game on the Web.”
