TCTA: 80 years of advocacy - Year-round protection
|
The Texas Classroom Teachers Association is a nonprofit, independent organization serving 50,000 members across Texas. Founded in 1927, TCTA has been The Educated Choice® for Texas teaching professionals for 80 years.
TCTA is nonunion and is not affiliated with any national organization, so its policies and efforts are not influenced by out-of-state interests. And 100 percent of the annual dues paid by TCTA members stays in Texas working on behalf of Texas teachers and Texas public education.
TCTA offers an array of services and benefits including:
The highest level of professional liability insurance coverage
TCTA dues include professional liability insurance of up to $7 million, with $2 million for civil rights coverage. This is the highest level of coverage available, and the policy is administered by an A+ rated carrier.
The legal help you need
The fact is, as a teacher, situations can arise where you need protection in the classroom – with parents, students or administrators. TCTA provides you that protection. TCTA members have access to eight experienced staff attorneys, not nonlawyer union representatives, for employment-related legal information, assistance and representation. No other professional organization offers the expertise or attorney-to-member ratio that TCTA does. TCTA also maintains a $250,000 Teacher Defense Fund to hire local attorneys to assist members when circumstances warrant.
Teachers only
Only TCTA limits its membership to classroom teachers and other instructional staff. You never have to worry about being a member of the same organization as your administrator.
Advocacy
Ranked the top education lobby group by Capitol Inside, TCTA employs a team of veteran lobbyists with an unmatched record of success advocating for you! Our work doesn’t stop when the legislative session ends. We also work with boards and state agencies on the implementation of new laws.
Special membership value for new TCTA members
TCTA is offering first-time TCTA active membership at the introductory rate of only $90, with active-level membership available for $140 per year. Both include the professional liability insurance policy.
Discount programs and services
TCTA offers a variety of ways to help members save time and money.
Timely information and numerous online services
Members have access to a wide range of communications resources, including our award-winning website (tcta.org) and The Classroom Teacher magazine. In addition, online updates from the Capitol and e-mailed weekly updates during the legislative session provide the most accurate, up-to-date information available. TCTA’s state-of-the-art website also offers FREE continuing professional education courses, an online “ask-a-lawyer” response center for general employment-related questions, legislative and other statewide information, and much more.
If you have questions about TCTA membership, you may call headquarters toll-free at (888) 879-8282 or visit our website at tcta.org, where our secure online membership application is available.
Headquarters
The Association owns its headquarters property located in the historic “Bremond Block” of downtown Austin. This beautifully restored 1886 Victorian mansion is one of two TCTA-owned properties located in the block, both of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Association has restored both of these Victorian structures to their original beauty and has helped to preserve pieces of the city’s history.
