The Texas Education Agency has released the 2006 Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) evaluations and reports that the state has met the AYP standards for 2006 under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. More Texas schools met AYP this year, even though 2006 AYP standards are higher than in previous years. In Texas, 81 percent of schools and 87 percent of districts met or exceeded the AYP performance targets. AYP evaluations are based on participation and performance on state reading/English language arts and math exams in grades 3-8 and 10; graduation rates and attendance rates.
