Teachers may be eligible for less-than-annual appraisals

A new law, passed during the 2003 session of the Texas Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Rick Perry, allows less-than-annual appraisals of teachers whose performance ratings the prior year were at least proficient and who had no identified areas of deficiency. Under the new law, which was initiated by TCTA and passed as House Bill 1440, teachers must continue to be appraised at least once every five years, and must consent in writing to less-than-annual appraisal.
