AUSTIN — Dolores Ramirez, a bilingual kindergarten teacher at Rangerville Elementary School in the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District, has been elected as Budget committee chair of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. Her term in office begins June 1, 2008. Founded in 1927, TCTA is an independent, nonunion association for Texas teaching professionals, which serves 50,000 members across the state.
Ramirez was elected to a two-year term in February at TCTA’s annual convention in Houston. In this position, she oversees the committee that guides the Association’s annual budget and recommends financial adjustments. As a statewide officer, she will continue to serve on both the TCTA Board of Directors and the Association's 10-member Executive Committee.
Ramirez is a longtime TCTA member, who has served seven years as district one director and on various committees. Locally, she is active in the San Benito Classroom Teachers Association serving as president, vice-president and faculty representative. She has represented her campus on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council and her grade level on the Campus Improvement Team. She also served as president of the District I Coordinating Council, member of the Region 1 Teacher of the Year panel, and grant proposal reader for TEA with the Even Start Literacy Program. She is also a member of the Kinder Teachers of Texas.
Ramirez earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville and bilingual certification from the University of Texas, Brownsville. Her community service extends to the San Benito Historical Society, Kiwanis Club, K-Kids Club, and Aggie Moms of the Rio Grande Valley. She was named Teacher of the Year for Rangerville Elementary School in 2006.
The TCTA 2008-09 Board also will include Gloria J. Dietrich of Mission, Norma Reza Rodriguez of San Benito and Gloria Galvan of McAllen, serving as district one directors.
TCTA is based in Austin and is the only statewide teachers association that limits active-level membership to those directly involved in classroom teaching or teaching support.
