TCTA’s lobby team has been named the top-ranked education group in its category by Capitol Inside. The 2007 Texas Lobby Power Rankings report ranks TCTA’s team as number three in the public sector associations category.

Capitol Inside is an online subscription service used by lobbyists, lawmakers, state and local agency officials, journalists and others seeking fast insider information on Texas politics. The “public sector” category includes “some of the most effective advocates at the Capitol today,” according to Mike Hailey, Capitol Inside editor.

“The groups that represent teachers gained more clout in the school funding fight and should be able to keep it despite the reprieve that lawmakers have in the wake of the special session last spring,” says Hailey noting that “above all, an association lobbyist has the ability to mobilize a grassroots base that can help turn up the pressure when needed.”

Capitol Inside’s rankings are developed using information gathered from Texas Ethics Commission records, research, institutional knowledge and conversations with lobbyists, lawmakers, consultants and others within the state Capitol community.
